Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice presidency and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who advocated for healthcare and federal de-scheduling cannabis. A pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She gained a national profile due to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of assault on a woman.
